Biography


Alison Limerick’s singing career began in pubs and bars on the London live music scene. A change of direction came when she joined the cast of ‘Labelled With Love’, a musical based around the music of Squeeze. She went on to perform in other musicals including Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s ‘Starlight Express’ and Simon Callow’s “The Pajama Game”. Session work continued throughout this time and was diverse, ranging from Pete Murphy to The Style Council and This Mortal Coil, among numerous other artists.

Alison’s debut album, ‘And Still I Rise’ was released in March 1992 and included both ‘Where Love Lives’ and her top 20 hit ‘Make it On My Own’. Alison also won the Best Female Artist Award at 1992’s DMC Awards. Alison’s second album was ‘With A Twist’, on which she collaborated with Frankie Knuckles, Tim Bran and David Morales, amongst others. The album spawned the two dance hit singles, ‘Time Of Our Lives’ and ‘Love Come Down’.

In 1996 Arista released ‘Club Classics’, a remix album. From this release ‘Where Love Lives’ again topped the dance charts with ‘’Make It On My Own’’ following. For the first time ‘Where Love Lives’ was released in America and reached number 4 in the Billboard Hot Dance 100 Chart. To top off the year she was nominated for a MOBO award.

Alison’s first single on the Jammin Music label, became a Top 5 Dance smash. The song ‘Put Your Faith In Me’ was a collaboration with the Visnadi Brothers who produced Livin Joy. Alison’s fourth album, ‘Spirit Rising’, followed.

Throughout this time there have been numerous writing/singing/recording collaborations, including: ‘Love Will Keep Us Together’ with the James Taylor Quartet for their album, “In The Hand Of The Inevitable”: tracks for all four Vibrophonic albums: two tracks with Key of Life for their self titled album, released in Japan on Victor. More recently “In The Blood” a song co-written for the X-Press2 album ‘The House Of X=Press 2’ was subsequently released as a single. Alison has worked with many other producers including Lati Kronlund, Arthur baker, Joe T Vanelli and Lenny Fontana, in England and abroad. Live she has worked with Tony Remy, George Michael and Courtney Pine.

Alison continues to record and to sing live, on her own or with her jazz band, she also appears as a guest artist with others. Having had a wide range of experience she can be heard singing soulfully in venues across Europe, with Sista NuSoul or singing in a jazz/fusion style with Algorisms, although she also continues to he hailed as a “dance diva” in house music venues around the world. In 2016 Alison joined Brooklyn Funk Essentials, alongside her ‘Where Love Lives’ writer/producer, Lati Kronlund and since then has toured with the band across Europe, appearing in clubs and at numerous jazz or funk festivals.

Following Pete Tong’s success with the Heritage Orchestra’s classical house project (in which she took no part), August 2017 saw Alison perform ‘Where Love Lives’ with an orchestra for the first time, joining the Skaparis Orchestra, conducted by Simon Robert Shaw (BBC Philharmonic). The ‘Classical Uproar’ event, held at Gorton Monastery in Manchester was “ . . a very impressive, unforgettable and intimate evening of dance music anthems reinterpreted in classical style . . .” – Flex-In Magazine. It would be the first of many orchestral events and later that year Alison performed with the Hacienda Classics Orchestra on the final night of their sellout tour. Other orchestral appearances include events with the Symphonic Sounds of Back2Basics in Leeds, at which she appeared alongside Robin S and Saffron from Republica. She was also invited to sing on three Australian tours with Ministry of Sound Orchestrated. “Alison Limerick returns to Orchestrated following a standout performance earlier in the year at the Sydney Opera House.” – Q News.

Alison Limerick features heavily on the last two Brooklyn Funk Albums, ‘Stay Good’ released in 2019 and Intuition released 2023, she also co-wrote several tracks on both albums. The next Brooklyn Funk Essentials album is nearing its completion, with the first single scheduled for release later this year. A debut Algorisms album is also currently in production.

The 4th November 2025 saw the release of the John Lewis Christmas 2025 advertising campaign. This year the brand has chosen the original classic mix of ‘Where Love Lives’ as the song for the campaign performed by Alison alongside a collaboration with Labrinth. The launch has been huge and the response to the commercial and the sudden re-introduction to alison has been immense. As a result alison is re-releasing her ‘Spirit Rising’ album this December with a definitive collection album scheduled for Q2 2026.
